                                     District Legal Services  Authority, Bathinda.


            The legal services Authorities Act, 1987 was to constitute legal services authorities to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the socieity to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities and to organize Lok Adalats to ensure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity.

            As per Section 12 of Legal Services Authorities Act, "Every person who has to file or defend a case, shall be entitled to Legal Service under this  Act if that person is:

  1. A member of a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribes;
  2. A victim of trafficking in human beings or begger as referred in article 23 (the constitution);
  3. A woman or child;
  4. A person with diability as defined in Clause (i) of section 1 of the persons with disabilities (Equal opportunities, protection or  Rights and  Full Participation) Act, 1995;
  5. A person under circumstances of undeserved want such as being a victim of a mass disaster ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood drought, earthquake or industrial disaster or
  6. An industrial workman or
  7. In custody including custody in a protective home within the meaning of clause(g) of section 2 of the Immoral Traffic (Prention) Act, 1956 or in a Juvenile Home within the meaning of clause (i) of Section 2 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 1986 or in a psychiatric hospital or psychiatric nursing home within the meaning clause (q) of section 2 of the Mental Health Act, 1987; or
  8. In receipt of annual income less than rupees one lakh Per  Annum or such other higher amount as may be porescribed by the  State  Government, if the case is b efore a court other than the Supreme Court, and less than rupees twelve thousand or such other higher amount as may be prescribed by the  Central Government, if the case is before the  Supreme Court:


Procedure for providing free legal services:


            A person desiring any legal service shall furnish an application-cum-affidavit addressed to the Chairman of the District Legal Services  Authority, Bathinda and for Sub Division  Talwandi Sabo & Phul to the  Chairman Sub  Division Legal Services Committee  Talwandi Sabo & Phul who are Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division).  These application Forms may also be submitted to the office of Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Bathinda (Civil Judge {Senior Division}, Bathinda)  or to the office of  Assistant, District Attorney (Legal  Services) 2nd Floor, Courts Complex, Bathinda.
